Okay, so internet issues have me down. *looks around and whispers* I'm connected for the moment...

But... I watched the end of Judgment Day (NCIS season 5 finale) and my fixed DVR called out to me and made me pause as...

...Vance shredded that pesky paper from his own file. What the hell was on that paper that made him shred it before giving the death sentence to Gibbs' team.

Thanks to the power of the DVR, I actually read some words off of the paper as it made its final decent into the shredder. What I got isn't much and it leaves more questions.

I think it was 2004, but it was a little too blurry and I couldn't quite make it out.

(...) New York City (...) Mothis(?) was a member of New York City Board of (...) Real Estate Appraiser (...) Harvard Law School, but left after one year to (...) Graduated from Annapolis, 19??. <-- This was either 91 or 81.

--> Okay, if I read that Mothis part right, who/what is Mothis??? Mothis is not close to any NCIS name I've heard before.

So, what do you all think about that? It leaves me more confused from what little I got out of it.

Oooh. No idea, but I remember noting the shredding when I saw it too. I bet it's going to be how they all get back together again, or the lynchpin to the season's arc.

I have this urge to write about Vance's true identity... somebody named Mothis.

Hmm... maybe Mothis is his demon name and Sam and Dean have to show up and send him to hell... yeah...

lol! Yes! But how would that get into his file? Maybe he was undercover under that name and undercover he went native and is now tied to all sorts of shady people. And if we're going the supernatural angles that could totally work with that - oh, oh, can there be a cult involved? And Sam and Dean are trying to track down the god/demon or whatever and their paper search leads them to Vance! Who's either the new host for Mothis or his high priest with plans to take over the US government and he's afraid of Gibbs!

Cult... Afraid of Gibbs... maybe there's something about how separating Gibbs from those he cares about would keep him from thwarting evil. And of course Sam and Dean have Gibbs' name in John's journal because John was a marine and Gibbs was a marine and it's just kismet.

Thwarting of positive energy and keeping him distracted with an incompetent new team. And the journal ... yes.

So, *eyes you cagily*, how much do I have to bribe you to write this?

Incompetent and possessed new team! The one taking McGee's place looks shady in the pics I've seen. I could see him being a demon lackey. Yup.

Hmm... looks around at other fics in progress... I'll have to think on it some. Mothis. Mothis. Mothis does have a great demon ring to it.

Mothis is Vance's cult leader name. He worships the demon Mothizar (or something...)

hmm... he started out undercover in the cult and soon rose in the ranks.

At first he was just playing along and then he began to understand about the power. And even though he was still an agent, still undercover, there was a little part of him that craved it after that first ritual....

The powers that be pulled him from his undercover assignment because they were no longer on the international terrorist watch list (this is post - 9/11). So he went back to being an agent, but his days as Mothis were still influencing him. He couldn't leave the power behind.

Not to burst the Mothis bubble, cause I love the scenarios above, but could it have read Mother not Mothis? That would maybe fit in a profile.

*ducks as things are thrown at her and her bloody logical and unpoetic soul*

But wouldn't that be creepier? If it were a demon named Mother?

Oh, yes, a demon named Mother would be awful! I now have an image of Antony Perkins calling "Mother" as his head spins a la Linda Blair.

I thought Mother at first too...

But then I kept looking and Mother didn't fit. I had an 'r' for comparison and it didn't match. I wanted it to be Mother because that made more sense than Mothis, but Mother didn't work...

*pondering*

Hmm... Now I'm wishing I hadn't deleted it off TiVo without rewatching tonight. Who the heck is Mothis? *iz confuzzled*
