Summary: Life's full of surprises and mine is no exception.

I was excited. He had never taken me anywhere outside of the Civil War reenactments and those I would gladly do without. He said the trip was to Hawaii. I knew it was an island and someplace exotic like that had to be better than staying at the boarding school again for the summer. I knew that surprises would be lurking at every corner and that maybe my father would actually do some things with me the other boys at school talked about. I wasn’t expecting the biggest surprise when he left me all alone in that expensive hotel room.

After the way things went down in Baltimore, I was surprised to see Special Agent Gibbs, second ‘b’ for bastard, standing outside my apartment door. I debated letting him inside until he pounded again with a gruff, “I know you’re in there DiNozzo!” I reluctantly opened the door and he walked in as if he was a long lost buddy. I offered him a beer, but he emptied my left over morning coffee from the pot instead. I waited for him to say something, but when he finally did, I almost couldn’t believe it. All I could do was smile.

Moments flash through a person’s mind in a blink. Every action a person takes determines the outcome of things they couldn’t even begin to fathom. Was Abby’s autopsy nightmare the ultimate cause of Kate’s death? Would Abby have died if it had been her in that room instead of Kate? If I hadn’t have opened that stupid envelope and gotten the plague, would things have been different when that car blew up? I hate the way life throws us surprises when we aren’t prepared. I wish there was a way we could know the outcome before we make our choice.

I’ve been surprised many times in my life, but that day in the interrogation with Fornell bantering back and forth like a therapy session floored me. The FBI actually believed I had killed René. Not only that, but Jeanne was the one that told them it was me. I know she had plenty of reasons to hate my guts, but I never would have believed she could accuse me of murdering her father. Later that day as I saw her walking away, I surprised myself by lying to her face. It was what she needed to hear, but it hurt.

Life is full of surprises and mine is no exception. One after another has been thrown my way and I come through on the other end. I might be a little scarred or otherwise roughed up, but I always make it. I try not to think about what will happen the one time I don’t make it. I’ve had so many close calls that it’s only a matter of time before my number is up. I tell myself that no one will mourn for me, but as I look at my team, my family, I’m surprised to learn they care.

Someone else who likes Leon, good! I've read a lot of people saying they don't like him. He has qualities that remind me of Morrow. He has a very strong presence.

...Ducky, well...yeah if he went I'd be sad, but it would make more sense than Tony or Gibbs. In my mind, Gibbs, Tony and Abby are the trio that make the show, with the others a very close second.

*sends reinforcements to join your armed guards* Just let them try, I say.

PS: I love that icon.

LOL, the operation has a three letter acronym, which means it must be real. OPD.
