Earthquake!

I just love it when I get woke up in the middle of the night.

This time the good ol' New Madrid Fault has decided to wake up and say, "look at what I can do".

I'm not sure yet how strong it was, but I would guess 4.3-4.7 or so. It was a good shake, rattle and roll.

So, anyway. There was an earthquake and it shook me awake. Now, do I go back to sleep for two hours?

EDIT

Wow... 5.4 preliminary.

We had thunder and lightening from it. And it wasn't the New Madrid fault. It was the Wabash fault up in Illinois. Strange. West Salem, Illinois for the epicenter. 160 miles or so away.
  • Yikes!

You live in a dangerous area, my dear! Seriously, thunderstorms, flooding, tornados, and now earthquakes!

*hugs you tightly* I'm glad that you are okay!!

Yeah.... we even had the remnants of couple of the hurricanes come through when they were still around tropical depression status.

In theory, we could have fires here too, but I've never heard of one getting that out of hand. Although my uncle did have two field fires last fall... hmm....

Although, the earthquakes don't bother me like high winds / tornados do. They actually kind of excite me. I almost did my major in geology with an emphasis on seismology. Of course that might change if I was in a big one.

I would have preferred not to be woken up though. The two strongest earthquakes I remember feeling (this one and one when I was in 8th grade) I was in bed for them. At least this time I didn't have a cat sleeping on my chest that dug its claws in when the bed started shaking.

We've also had a few good sonic booms from seismic activity. Those can rattle things just as much as a regular earthquake and they come packed with a really big boom.
