Summary: Anyone can get old. All you have to do is live long enough.
Gibbs paused in his work when he felt the tingle in the base of his spine signaling the presence of another immortal. It had been years since any immortal had just walked into his home unannounced, but he had a good idea who was about to appear at the top of the stairs. A whistle of appreciation reached his ears just as the smile of the man he hadn’t seen for far too long came into view.
“Sweet, Boss! I came here expecting another boat and you’ve got a spaceship instead. How do you plan to get this one out?”
Tony was uncertain how he could bring up the subject in conversation with Gibbs. Ever since Gibbs’ first death, Tony had not been able to read the man as well as he use to. Tony was just over three hundred years old and he still didn’t have a decent way to inform a person that they were unable to have children or, in Gibbs’ case, the daughter he lost could not have been his.
After running a hand over his face, he pushed the door open and walked into Gibbs’ house and smiled at the gun barrel that greeted him.
“You can break a man’s neck for God’s sake, so what the hell is wrong with learning to use a sword? I guess it is true that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.”
“Who you calling old, DiNozzo?” Gibbs questioned as his hand connected with the back on Tony’s head.
“I may be old, boss, but I still look good,” Tony smiled as he handed Gibbs his sword.
Gibbs grunted as he took position in order to begin the drill again. He intended to wipe that smile off DiNozzo’s face if it was the last thing he did.
‘Don’t make me kiss you, Boss.’ Tony rubbed his eyes as he thought back to that moment on the dock; the moment he knew that Gibbs was about to die and there wasn’t a thing he could do to stop it. He had known that Gibbs was a pre-immortal since that fateful meeting over a dead petty officer in Baltimore. When Gibbs offered him a job at NCIS, Tony couldn’t refuse; he wanted to be there for the other man when the time came. Taking a deep breath, he walked into the house and shuddered when he felt Gibbs’ presence.
Tony sank to the ground as the electricity coursing through his body finally subsided. The time immediately following a quickening was what he hated the most. The rush of the challenge, the thrill of the fight, the heart stopping moment when the opponent’s head was severed… those he could handle. When it was all over, he was left with a dead body, a severed head and the lingering question in his mind whether he could’ve avoided it.
Wincing at the fried cell he pulled from his pocket, he walked to the closest payphone. “Hey Duck. How’s my favorite Watcher tonight?”

I think Ducky helps Tony get rid of the bodies... :-)
And Tony will have his hands full with Gibbs.
These were all great and I kinda felt that like the ficlets were each taking place earlier in time than the one before (which isn't hard considering that the first one mentions a spaceship)
And I couldn't pass up a chance to have Tony as the 'boss' so to speak.
:-)
Glad the appetizers were good though!
** SQUEEEEEE **
*huggles*
Comments in drabble sequence:
1. Spaceship! LOL
2. @_@ Shannon cheated on Gibbs?!!? Or... oh, God. *whimper* Was she raped and never told him?
3. *snort* You're never to old to get Gibbs-smacked. *smirk*
4. Finally! A plausible explanation of why Gibbs wasn't sputtering and spewing when he came to on the dock. *high-five*
5. If Ducky's the Watcher, has he been (pre-)watching Gibbs all this time? Or was he Jenny's Watcher? ;) *hint, hint, nudge, nudge* (It WAS Tony who said Jenny was dead.)
Re: ** SQUEEEEEE **
I'm thinking of doing a longer thing with this. It's growing on me.
(1) I was watching Star Trek: tNG tonight (encounter at Farpoint) and had this idea of Gibbs in the future and Tony walking down the stairs commenting on his spaceship. I couldn't resist... :-)
(2) I'm actually thinking that Kelly was adopted and Gibbs knows so it won't be as much of a shock as Tony thinks it will... though the rape thing could lead to angst...
(3) Nope. :-)
(4) Tony wasn't trying to hard because secretly he wanted Gibbs to die before he got *too* old
(5) hmmm... Jenny as an immortal... maybe her vendetta against the Frog goes back much further than previously thought.
Tony didn't want to leave Gibbs because he wanted to be there when Gibbs died...
One thing: Tony did not kill Gibbs there in the end, did he? Because... *wibbles* Why should he? He's Gibbs' MENTOR now (which in itself is such an awesome idea that it almost fried my brain). And and and Ducky is his watcher (which OMG THAT FITS SO PERFECTLY!).
Really, if you decide you'd like to play more in this universe you'll have a very faithful reader in me!
Ducky has to be a Watcher... he couldn't be anything else. :-)
Glad you liked and I do have ideas for expanding this.
I have ideas to expand on this now... I even came up with Tony's first life and death in my head last night when I couldn't sleep. And it will also explain why he is in law enforcement... :-)
To think it all came from watching Encounter at Farpoint (the first ST:tNG ep) yesterday and wondering what Tony would say about a future Gibbs building a spaceship in his basement.
I'm going to work on Tony's back story in one called Immortal Smile. It will tell about Tony's first death, why he works in law enforcement and why being behind bars in Frame Up really bothered him.
I couldn't resist making Tony older. It just seemed like a perfect fit. :-)
just little snippets and yet so much story told. Very nice.
Glad you liked!
I was *so* wrong. These are amazing drabbles! I feel the characters, understand just enough Highlander to not feel stupid, and the Gibbs/DiNozzo interaction is tasty.
Thanks so much for sharing. I hope there's more to come.
I'm thinking of doing more in this little verse I made and even then I may never bring any of the Highlander characters in to play. Maybe Joe (Duncan's watcher) to have a conversation with Ducky once... but I may just keep in NCIS with immortals.
I love my Gibbs/DiNozzo.... :-)
My favorite was the second to the last
Re: My favorite was the second to the last
Highlander was the first fandom I ever read fanfiction in... then I stemmed to BtVS Crossovers and it snowballed from there, but Highlander will always hold a special place in my heart (even if they did kill Richie).
Glad you liked!
Glad that you enjoyed this! I hope to have more written for this soon. I have an outline in place for a longer story. :-)
Just one thing - Do you mean Tony's had to kill Gibbs?! I'm sure that's not the case, but the whole thing is about them so it feels like that is what you're implying.
:-)
Glad you liked this. I actually have a four part story outlined (just need to write) that starts with Tony getting ready to tell Gibbs what he is. It will deal with things like watchers, hunters and the fact that Kelly isn't Gibbs' natural daughter.
And I also have plotted out how Tony's first death happened. :-)
Yeah, poor Tony, Gibbs would definitely not take that too well, his beloved Kelly being someone elses. Unless he already knew... Sorry, not trying to give you plot bunnies/interfere it just popped into my head!
But would definitely love to read more, it could be a really good hurt/comfort and be sweet and funny - just like this was :)
I went back and forth on the whole Kelly issue and I think I have a good way to go with it.
Or you can just sit back and wait for the finished product. There will definitely be some h/c.
I also have an idea of a tag to Bounce (as well as a throw back to Frame-Up) that I'll do after the big fic, because it ties in nicely to Tony's first death. Then I have an idea for a future!fic that will have a Gibbs/DiNozzo moment in it. I see them staying friends over the years but once in a great while, they have a night where they need closeness from someone who understands. (setting that one after Abby (the last of their NCIS) dies as an old lady).
If you want me to look it over, send it to my email addy: idontlikegravy at yahoo.co.uk :)
Also, I'm sooo glad I found them *after* I'd worked out most my immie!Gibbs canon in my head.
But still... awesome! I love how you worked out the issue of Shannon and Kelly. But, poor Gibbs!
I have this whole story line worked up to continue this little verse and just haven't gotten around to writing it yet. I have this whole bit worked up in regards to Shannon and Kelly and how Kelly came to be that is just a tad angsty. I really need to write it.
I didn't remember the fic, so I follwed the link, et voila! Here I am rereading a fic and enjoying it as if it were the first time. These were all fabulous.
Did you ever do an AU Immortal fic, because I would love to read it?
