Note: Internet woes kept me out of action, but I'm making up for it with many drabbles.

Summary: As he looked through all the profiles of Gibbs' team, he had a decision to make.
He glanced down at the seven folders that had been delivered to him earlier in the day. The one on top was the one he was most interested in, but he would save it for the end. First, he wanted to learn about the people the man surrounded himself with. So far, he only knew the good doctor, the assistant and Caitlin. He smiled at the thought of the female agent and pulled her file out first. She had had her chance to take him out and she hesitated. Maybe the file would tell him why she had done it.
All-American girl was how the file read. In high school, she was class president, valedictorian, captain of the softball team; the list was long and illustrious. College followed with top honors in her chosen degree. Then came the Secret Service. She went to FLETC and Rowley and proved she could hold her own with the men around her. Several years later, one stomach bug saw her practically kicked out of the Secret Service and into NCIS. In all the documentation, there was nothing that indicated why she hesitated in that brief moment in autopsy. If only he could ask her.
Dr. Mallard’s dossier read like the man himself, dignified. From the finest schools in Great Britain, to NCIS autopsy, the doctor was well known and greatly respected. He had no wife or children, but he takes care of his elderly mother. Called Ducky by his friends and co-workers, the doctor had almost fifteen years logged in with NCIS. He was a strong yet kind man and his relationship with Special Agent Gibbs was that of a close friend or possibly even a father figure. Dr. Mallard would serve a purpose when it was time for the game to play out.
Timothy McGee, the newest and youngest member of the team. Intelligence wise, the young agent was brilliant. He had more than one degree to his name and his work with computers was the highlight of his burgeoning career. In the field, he was slowly gaining confidence and following the instructions that Gibbs passed down. There was nothing spectacular about the man to make him stand out for potential use. If an opportunity arose to do something, then he would take it. Otherwise, the young agent could just stay on the sidelines as the game was played out amongst his elders.
Gerald, the only file he had for someone not currently working at NCIS. The assistant was still going through his rehabilitation before returning to the job. The medical reports were a fascinating read as they detailed every bit of muscle and nerve damage the bullet caused. Since being released from the hospital, Gerald had regular visitors from Dr. Mallard and Ms. Sciuto and occasional ones from Agent DiNozzo. The reports also indicated that he would be able to return to work soon with limited duties until his physical therapy ended. As the folder closed, he smiled over his latest thought.
Born in New Orleans, Abigail Sciuto was far from ordinary. She excelled in her chosen field and it allowed many, including the government, to overlook her idiosyncrasies. She dressed as a Goth, slept in a coffin and had more tattoos than most sailors; yet, she was still a valued part of NCIS. It was still a puzzle why Gibbs had taken a shine to the girl, but everything indicated that he would kill in an instant to protect her. It was something that he planned to use when the time was right. Ms. Sciuto would be a very valuable tool.
Being a former cop and the black sheep to an affluent family just added to the puzzle that was Anthony DiNozzo, Gibbs’ senior field agent. His father cut him off from the family funds at a young age, but the agent made his own way in law enforcement. Before NCIS, his record contained many reprimands for his conduct on cases. It seemed that only Gibbs could keep the man in line with the letter of the law, or just overlooked it. The two were strong partners and had been for almost four years. Either would die to save the other.
Ari scanned back through the files he had on all the people that Gibbs surrounded himself with. He knew that in order to get the man to break, at least one of the others would have to die. After careful consideration, he had it narrowed to down to Sciuto, DiNozzo and Caitlin. He knew that Sciuto or DiNozzo would cause more pain for the man, but something about Caitlin kept drawing him to choose her. She could be the first and then he would slowly kill Gibbs by taking out the rest of his people one shot at a time.

Excellent way of interpreting the prompt, a very interesting look at the different characters through Ari's eyes
But I'm caught up on my drabbles now! :-)
Why he picked Kate has always intrigued me. I think that Abby, Tony or Ducky would have made more of an impact that Kate did on Gibbs. So I think that Kate was picked more because Ari had interacted with her and that made her more personal to him in his connection to Gibbs.
very good point! Maybe a touch of sexism too- Kate being a girl and Ari being more 'old school' about those sorts of things
Of course, taking out Kate also meant that Gibbs lost an agent on his watch, something that he had never had happened according to what he told Kate when Tony was awol with Jeffrey.
That was a bit personal to Gibbs. I think taking out Tony in action would have hit Gibbs' harder than Kate though... but then I'm glad Tony wasn't taken out because I love my Tony.
taking out an agent was significant. That was a major blow to Gibbs and the man's opinion of himself and Ari knew that
I figured Ari picked Kate because he knew her the best---killing her was less about Gibbs and more about Ari in some ways, at least in my head. Ari knew targeting the people Gibbs thought of as more vulnerable would get to him, and he'd try to protect them---leaving everyone else that much more vulnerable. Was a classic misdirection. He got to Gerald because Gibbs was focused on keeping Abby safe. He could have just as easily gotten Tony given that Gibbs had him trailing Ziva.
