Summary: Her past is laid out in the open by the ink spread across her body.
The first came the day she turned eighteen. And if you wanted to be technical about it, she got a two for one deal that day; two little angels, one on each shoulder. Her parents had always called her angel by using the sign for angel to symbolize her name. When she first started school, she had thought that was her name.
Next came the infinity symbol on her arm. She wanted to live a long and full life and infinity gave her the resolve to make it happen. After that, several others sprinkled her body in different locations. Each had its own story of existence and each meant a great deal to her.
The day she graduated with a bachelor’s degree, she went to the nearest tattoo artist. It took time and a bit of pain, but the webbing covering the side of her neck along with the spider nestled in wait was worth it. She had the strength of the web and the patience of the spider to aid her in the world she was venturing into.
When the paperwork went through and she had her credentials to begin work as the head of the forensics lab at NCIS several years later, she knew she had found her place. She had been saving one spot on her body for that occasion. And so she had an ornate cross laid out across the expanse of her skin. She wasn’t able to see it most of the time, but she knew it was there supporting her through the rough cases she wasn’t sure she could solve with science.
With the cross she thought she was done marking her body with the passage of time. But the day Kate died, she knew she had at least one mark left to add.
