In the episode Good Samaritan (01x14), Kate and Tony had a conversation about emergency contacts. Kate was on the phone trying to get it filled out and they wouldn't let her use her sister in Miami because she wasn't local.
So Tony was all, I'll be it. And of course he started making a big deal out of it and Kate said she should ask Abby instead. Then Tony asked why she didn't ask Gibbs... The following insued: (The elevator bell dings. Abby turns and heads out just as Gibbs walks in while sipping from his coffee cup. He’s carrying two coffee cups.)
TONY: Why don't you ask Gibbs?
KATE: Maybe I will. (She turns and watches Gibbs head for his desk.) Why is he carrying two cups of coffee today?
(Gibbs puts both cups on his desk.)
TONY: I don't know, and I don't wanna know. But it probably has something to do with one of his ex-wives.
(The phone rings.)
GIBBS: (to phone) Gibbs. (pauses) (He hangs up and stands up to look at the monitor map.) We have a possible execution-style murder of a Navy leutenant commander in Grayson County.
(Gibbs turns and starts moving. Tony hangs up. Gibbs picks up his two cups of coffee of the desk and heads out.)
GIBBS: Let's call Ducky.
(Kate picks up the phone to make the call. Tony has his jacket and is following Gibbs out. He stops by Kate’s desk.)
TONY: You know I have call waiting-- for emergencies. I don't think Gibbs even knows what call waiting is.
(Tony puts his holster on and heads out.) I don't think they actually said anywhere that Gibbs was Tony's emergency contact... but a lot people went that route. And they never did say who Kate ended up putting down for hers...
