It saddens me that people hate so much that they have to spill that hate out to others.
I live on the edges of the bible belt and several people posted to the local NBC station's Facebook page about the episode of The New Normal that aired last night. And because they were open posts, I'm going to do some cutting/pasting below:
That's just two of several posts people made directly. The part that gets me is the one that called it smut. Now I think everyone here knows that I should know what smut is, especially of the male/male variety and let me tell you... if The New Normal had smut in it, I must have been watching the wrong show.
The bad thing is, I didn't really like the show because I thought a few of the characters were too over the top. But judging by the reactions above, maybe that over the top is not too far off.
*sigh*

I am a Christian and try to live my life by biblical principles, and fail miserably at times. However, I cannot be silent about this show I believe this immoral show helps to continue the destruction of the moral fabric of this beloved nation. I ask that you reconsider the decision to run this program. Thank you."

That is the kindof program you expect to see on cable and then there are so many channels you can change it but if you have basic like my Mother and always wait for the news to come on at 10 then you will be subjected to this smut. I'm now sitting here wondering if I'm being bigoted against the bigots for wanting to ship the lot of them off to an island... somewhere with man-eating animals and no way to contact the outside world. XD
But I really dislike people who are supposedly loving, hating so much. Of course I've always been annoyed by people shoving religion down others throats. I'm the kind of person who has the whole, I think what think and you think what you think and we move on mind set.
And yeah, it's hard to wonder where that bigot line is drawn when faced with shit like that. Maybe take away the man-eating animals and just settle for the island with no way to contact the outside world and then see how long their morals last.
And also what gets me is the people that object to 'being forced' to view it. Last time I checked all TVs came with remotes. No one is forcing them to watch a show. If they don't like it, change the channel. I'm sure the 700 Club is on somewhere at the same time e.e
And the whole sexual aspect is right on. It's like they can't realize that gays can have a meaningful relationship that's not filled with *OMG* butt-sex *OMG* and being promiscuous with tons of partners. They don't want to listen to whole straight people can have *OMG* butt-sex *OMG* and be promiscuous too.
The funny thing about the show is that the closest I saw to smut was the straight husband in bed cheating on his wife with an Asian woman. And the bigotted Grandma would rather her g-daughter be back with him than living single and carrying a child for a gay couple. They showed the gay couple kiss (*OMG*) and they were laying in bed and rolled over to face each other talking and then kissed (*OMG-Again*). Whereas the straight man has been showed down to his undies and was cheating.
And many people commented on FB to the posters that if they were that offended, they should have just turned the TV off and read their bible :)
I tried to watch the show and turned it off because I thought it (like most sitcoms that air these days) was over the top and horrid.
I watched it. Wasn't too impressed for the same reason. Tried again tonight and not really feeling it. Although those commenters make me want to watch it just to spite them. And I do like Justin Bartha... because, hello, Riley Poole!!!

As for smut, I didn't see any. In fact I felt the gay couple didn't have much chemistry at all. Though I do like the actors,I actually felt they weren't affectionate enough. LOL
I will continue to watch because i refuse to let the haters win and I've got my fingers crossed it will get better
And I agree, the gay couple didn't really feel couply to me. I thought Bartha's character had more chemistry with the surrogate which is not good at all. I just hope the lack of affection wasn't from someone saying in the background during filming, "No, we can't show that on TV."
Every now and then a sector of the Catholic church mouths off, but nobody pays much attention to them - fortunately.
What I don't understand is how people get their knickers in a twist over who sleeps with whom and their gender. Hell! The only distinction my 90 year old Dad makes regarding people is whether they're good or bad, and I quote: "what people do in their bedrooms and the privacy of their own homes is their business, all the rest is just bullshit!"
this is the first i heard of this, what i heard early last month was mothers were going to boycott the show.
my boyfriend doesnt like gay stuff but he doesnt go all over bored over it, he says hes just not going to watch it. if im watching it i just make sure hes not home or watch on my portable dvd player with headphones
