big·ot·ry   [big-uh-tree]
noun, plural -ries.
1. stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one's own.

Within my massive extended family we have Catholics, Muslims, Jews, non-believers, many other faiths, gays and straights, mixed race marriages, doctors, lawyers, teachers, stay at home moms, farmers, business minded and not so business minded, artists, writers, dreamers, musicians, veterinarians, soldiers... The list can go on an on. And yet, with all those differences, we can come together at the holidays (even if some don't celebrate the same ones) and for many other reasons and be at peace with one another (except for those friendly family disagreements where you agree to disagree).

If a large extended family can make this work on a small scale, wouldn't it be awesome to see it on the grand scale of earth.

My philosophy has always been: I have my beliefs and thoughts and you have your beliefs and thoughts. They may not be the same, but I won't hate you for it. In fact, I just might learn something.

So if there was one problem that could be solved it would be bigotry, because solving bigotry would solve so many others in the world.

Charlie Chaplin says it well:
  • Thank you for sharing this.

It has opened my eyes and my heart once more of what has been forgotten. So inspiring indeed!! :)

You're welcome. It's something I've always felt. Especially coming from such a diverse and large extended family.
