Summary: A feeling of abandonment leaves Tony considering his future with the team. (a tag to Boxed In)

Tony dropped the reheated linguini unceremoniously in the sink with a clatter. It had evidently been left unattended for too long. The taste of the one bite was lingering in his mouth, mixing with the metallic tang of the pain pills. Rubbing his injured arm, he moved into the living room and sank into his couch with a heavy sigh.

He couldn't really blame Ziva for not wanting him to show at her little gathering. People had a right to decide whom they did and did not want present in their own homes. However, that fact did not keep the old hurts from creeping inside Tony's guts.

The first time he vividly remembered being left out and behind was in that hotel in Hawaii. Ordering room service on his own had been a thrill at first but the second night had led to tears. The third night led to his creation of the first DiNozzo rule: DiNozzo's Don't Cry.

He knew that there had been other moments before that, but they were part of the blur that was his lonely childhood and the only child of a man worth millions. Things improved when he went to college, but then college led to law enforcement.

Each time he left for a new city, it was because the people he thought had his back didn't. In Peoria it had been rumors that he was gay. Philly was the undercover operation gone to hell in a hand basket. Baltimore… He sided with the feds against his own precinct.

Now he was one of those feds and it appeared that even Gibbs' strong code that fell inline with Semper Fi didn't protect him from being left behind. Perhaps it was time to look at other options, just as he had done in the past. Because, like the limp, leftover linguini, Tony knew he had left a bad taste in his team's mouth.
  • Awwwww - poor Tony! *pets* Stupid Ziva. Stupid team. Gibbs should have known better! *pets Tony again*

This broke my heart - Tony always gets the short end of the stick. :-(
    • kaylashay81: (NCIS - Pet the Tony)
      *sigh*

Poor Tony... he needs more pets and "good boy" comments from Gibbs. *nods*
      • Gibbs definitely needs to make it up to him. He's got some 'splaining to do!
      • Well, if Gibbs doesn't have time for a hug and a cuddle for Tony... *I* could always make myself available. *pets Tony* "Good boy, Tony... does blood_red_alibi have to bear mace a bitch?"

*sigh* So sad... but a great story.

This breaks my heart a bit, but it's so in line with what we were left with at the end of the episode.
    • kaylashay81: (NCIS - Tony Hug)
I know... the end of that episode always left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. He had such a hurt look on his face.... *hugs Tony*
  • AAAAW!!!! Poor Tony.... What is Gibbs going to do to make it up to him?
    • kaylashay81: (NCIS - Tony Hug)
That is a good question... Gibbs has a long way to go to make it up to his boy...
  • *snuggles him*

Okay, so now I get the title and in all honesty my mind went to the dirty place first. Whoops? This was sad and at the same time very nearly perfect.

And now this totally wants me to do a Hemery!Buffy meeting with teenage!Dinozzo at an art gallery opening or some such random place where their parents ditched them...

      Oooo.... I'll read it... :-)

And yeah, the title does misdirect at first... *innocent face*
  • ext_3440: (Default)
    *sniff* Good one.

I keep waiting for Tony to say something one of these days. Or, maybe not say anything. But to just stop letting it roll off his back for once. That sterile smile must get uncomfortable after a while.

    • kaylashay81: (NCIS - Tony Hug)
Thanks! And Tony is just a whumpable character I guess... Poor baby...
  • Poor Tony.
  • like this very much, no drama, just plain statements of facts making it all the more poignant with no self pity
    • kaylashay81: (NCIS - Tony Hug)
Thanks... I love doing introspective Tony. There's so many ways to take him.
  • Man...that hurt.
    But I loved it. :-)
    • kaylashay81: (NCIS - Tony Hug)
I guess we need the comfort side to counter the hurt.... *looks around for Gibbs*
  • Very powerful! Packs a huge punch in a few words!
  • *sobs*

Okay, I want to invite Tony round to my place now for a home cooked meal. Okay my motives aren't entirely pure but...damn. Makes me want to wrap the woobie up in a big hug. :)

Short but very much to the point.

    Loved it doll.
    • kaylashay81: (NCIS - Tony Hug)
I think everyone needs to pick a night to have Tony over for dinner and a hug... it would be so nice for him. :-)
  • Boxed In is one of my favourite episodes but the thing with Ziva always leaves a bad taste... Poor Tony *huggles him*

    This was beautfully sad

    *hugs Tony some more*

I liked Boxed In too except for that little dig they got in on Tony at the end. I think it was believable when he learned that McGee and Palmer and Abby had all been there. That didn't bother me as much as when Gibbs implied he was there. Gibbs was the catcher for me. One, from everything we've seen, Gibbs doesn't go out of his way to do "team" get-togethers. So, why was he there?

Second, Gibbs is very team oriented even if he doesn't do team functions, so why would he go knowing that Tony was the only one not present. *sigh*

That little inconsistency about Gibbs is what bothered me the most about the end of the ep. Otherwise, I liked it. I enjoyed the conversations between Tony and Ziva. I enjoyed Gibbs *knowing* they weren't dead and that divers weren't needed.

      *gives tony a hug*
      • jup, that sealed the deal for me as well. Tony didn't really bother that McGee and Palmer were invited. Abby hit home a little closer but when Gibbs implied he was there as well, that was the thing that crushed Tony. And I hate all the smug smiles, especially McGee's.

I'm extremely protective of Tony so it irks me when he gets a low blow and that one was very low.

And I want to slap Gibbs everytime he says something nice to Tony about a job well done and then waves all away with a mean comment in the next second.

I mean, it's obvious that Tony craves his approval and it hurts him (probably to the core) when Gibbs gives him that approval only to take it back in the next moment. And I bet Gibbs knows that!

Okay.. I could rant and rant and rant about this LOL

        *gives Tony another hug*

Sad lovely bit that rings true to me. I always hated that ending even though we got to see how vulnerable he is.
    • kaylashay81: (NCIS - Tony Hug)
The ending just sucker punches you and makes you want to hug the poor boy...
  • Aww, poor Tony!
  • *hugs Tony*

*smacks Gibbs upside the head for not fixing this*

    Nicely done!
  • Sad and one of the few episode tags that I absolutely loathe. There were a few I didn't like, but this one I abhored.
    • kaylashay81: (NCIS - Tony Hug)
I know... and Tony's face at the end was just... just... :-(

      *hugs Tony more*

I hated that they were all invited to that dinner party at Ziva's. Gibbs even kind of made a little comment about it rubbing it into his face. You could see that it really bothered him at the end because of the look on his face. And McGee had that smug little smile on his face. I felt so bad for Tony for him being left out of the party. I never thought that Gibbs and Abby would have gone, or done that to Tony too. Even Abby said something about it. Gibbs and Abby know how Tony is like and yet they do that. Poor Tony.

Forgot to put in my last comment. And this was after Tony almost dies for Ziva in Undercover. When he was left in that room with that guy. If he didn't do what he did and kicked the guy until Gibbs and the team got there he would have been dead.
