Summary: Ducky learns early on how to address the newest member of Gibbs' team.
"Ah…" came the cultured voice of the older man Tony assumed was the medical examiner. "You must be Special Agent Gibbs' newest acquisition. Unfortunately, he failed to pass your name along to me."
Tony stepped forward and stretched his hand out for a shake, only to pull it back at the last minute when he saw the blood covered hand.
"Tony DiNozzo," he said as he instead brought his hand up to his nose. There was a foul odor in the autopsy room and it had something to do with the dead body on the table.
"Tony. Would that be short for Anthony? Anthony was derived from Greek you know. It meant, 'Worthy of –"
"Worthy of telling me why he hasn't reported back to me," Gibbs' stern voice interrupted the tangent the doctor had taken.
"Uh- I was just getting to that, Sir – Gibbs – Boss," Tony rushed to say, attempting to cover the expression that had crossed his face when the doctor had started to talk about his name.
"How about you get to Abby and see if she has anything and I'll finish up here," Gibbs ordered instead of asking.
Tony debated mentioning that he thought the Goth forensics chick might kill him if he showed up in her lab again, but one look from Gibbs had him exiting autopsy anyway. Well on his way, he missed what was said between his new boss and the doctor.
"He seems a little jumpy Jethro. Are you sure he will make a good replacement for Stan?"
"He will Ducky. Just don't call him Anthony."
"Why ever not?" Ducky asked. "Anthony is a strong name."
"You didn't see his face. Somebody convinced that kid he's not worthy of anything, let alone his name. Now what do you got for me Duck?"
